What is hypnosis? ~ the Expansive Explanation

Hypnosis is an established therapeutic tool and a profession with a centuries-long history of helping people enhance abilities and improve lives. When conducted by an experienced and certified hypnotherapist, hypnosis brings about dramatic and long-lasting results. Once you learn how to access your subconscious mind, you will be astounded by your newfound ability to eliminate negative habits, attract abundance in all areas of your life, healthy relationships, self-love, achieve success in all areas of your life and more!

Dispel misconceptions. Contrary to popular misconceptions that define hypnosis as a form of unconsciousness resembling sleep, research proves that when in a hypnotic trance you are fully awake with focused attention along with a corresponding decrease your peripheral awareness.

James Braid described “hypnotism” as a state of physical relaxation accompanied and induced by mental concentration (“abstraction”).

“At the start of 2021, when Carolynn had recently finished her hypnotherapy training, I signed up for a session for myself to help me overcome some personal challenges.

The purpose was to help me create better work-life balance by getting out for daily walks. I love walking, and need it for my mental health, but because of my workload, I JUST WASN’T GETTING OUT…at all.

After going through all the intake and learning about my challenges and blockages, we settled into the actual hypnotherapy. To be honest, it felt 100% like a guided meditation for me, but with a goal in mind. I was conscious the whole time, and mindful of what was happening. I simply followed along as Carolynn talked me through it.

The key moment during the hypnosis came when I started running in my visualization. I was on a beautiful beach, just flying across the sand, and I was reminded of how great it used to feel when I was out for a run (I’m a long-time runner with a bad knee, now.) I could feel the muscles contracting in my core, I could feel my feet twitching as I remembered how it felt to be active. And in that moment, I determined that I couldn’t live without moving more.

I was still in my hypnosis trance when I established what it would take to get moving – I would indulge in a pair of AirPods (which I have long coveted), because then I could listen to books, music, or chat with my mom on the phone as I walked. However, because they were a bit of a treat, I made myself a deal that I would ‘work off the cost’ by walking 6 of 7 days a week.

I bought them the following weekend, and I have walked almost every day since. I now do at least 7,000 steps a day, and on Sundays (my former long-run day), I do approx 17,000 steps. In the weeks prior to my session with Carolynn, I was doing perhaps 7,000 steps per WEEK.

I’d like to thank Carolynn SO MUCH for helping me unlock my active self once more! I look forward to my daily walks, and look for opportunities to go, instead of being overwhelmed with work. The work always gets done. And now the walks do, too!”

The Process

The root cause of all emotional issues lies in the subconscious mind. One of the most effective and fastest ways to access the subconscious mind is through hypnotherapy.

Often called the “highway to the Subconscious”, hypnosis bypasses the critical conscious mind and accesses the subconscious mind. It is extremely beneficial in reversing negative beliefs and transforming negative emotions by releasing the repressed emotions and the associations with it. This creates a domino effect and allows the subconscious mind to restore it to its authentic powerful state.

Hypnosis is usually conducted by hypnotic induction – a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions.  Hypnotic suggestions are delivered by a Consulting Hypnotist who may also teach you self-hypnosis techniques using ‘triggers’. The process depends on the Consulting Hypnotist’s experience and techniques as well as your receptiveness to suggestions in order to experience positive long-lasting results.

How can we access the root cause of the problem?

Pulling a dandelion out by its leaves will not make it go away, it is only when its long, deep roots are removed completely will it cease to return.

Similar to the issues we deal with here, we don’t just scratch the surface. We dig deep to locate the issue, and utilize a combination of effective hypnosis techniques to eradicate it.

Understanding how the mind works

In order to gain optimum results, first you need to understand how the mind works and what is actually transpiring when you are struggling with an issue.  The mind is divided into three parts: the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious mind.

The Conscious part of the mind holds all the analytical, rational information along with short-term memory.

The Subconscious part of the mind is an organic computer where all emotions, beliefs, feelings, habits and worries are stored.

The Unconscious part of the mind is the domain of the automatic functioning of our being, which is affected by both the conscious and subconscious. Our body’s response to internal and external issues is influenced by our unconscious mind.

In order for healing to take place we must uncover and release, reframe and transform memories that are stored at the subconscious level in order to positively influence behavior at the conscious level.
